1900 $10,000 Gold Certificate CGA Graded CU63 FR-1225 S/N M59646

This Is A Cancelled Gold Certificate (None Are Redeemable, Canceled Or Not) Washington, D.C. - Dated Dec. 16, 1915 - Signatures Teehee/Burke  The Overall Appearance Of This Note Is Very Attractive With Very Bright White Paper...Red Seal And Gold Color.  About 75%++ Have Brown Staining From Being Wet In The Fire In 1935 But This Example Has Only Very Light Water Staining And Almost No Browning.  It Is Nicely Centered And Totally Original (Very Pleasing To The Eyes) I Have Handle Several of These Over The Years And This Example Has The Whites Paper I Have Come Across.  No Dirt, Pinholes (Beside The Normal Punch Cancelled Pin Holes), Rips, Tears, Rust or Ink.  I Estimate That Only Between 300-500 Have Survived In All Grades My Census Shows 302 Known As of July of 2006.

These Notes Became Available In 1935 When The Treasury Warehouse Caught Fire.  As The Fire Spread, Some Of These Notes Were Thrown Out Onto The Street To Keep The Fire From Spreading.  Many Were Scorched Or Burned, And Most At Least Show Water Damage. Passersby Quickly Took Advantage Of The Situation, And Spirited Away A Number Of The Notes.  One Can Only Guess At The Excitement Of Finding A $10,000 Gold Certificate During The Middle Of The Great Depression! Here Is One Of Those Notes For The Adventurous Collector.
