The faces and backs of Series 1869 $1.00 Legal Tenders represent a complete new design from those of the previous Series. The Portrait in the center of the face is George Washington. The figure on the left side of the face is the Christopher Columbus sighting land. Because of the vivid colors and the blue tinted paper, this Series is referred to as the "Rainbow" series.
